A life-long gardener, Saxon Holt spent his professional time as a commercial photographer until 1985 when he discovered the gardening market and could no longer stay indoors. Living in Northern California he has found the combination of climate for plants and climate for adventuresome gardeners to be a constant source of inspiration.

His work increasingly focuses on the relationship between gardens and the land. His appreciation and wonder for plants has allowed him to explore ways that gardeners enhance the landscape with plants that reveal the light, move with the wind, anchor the ground, or excite the senses. Both of his most recent books, the acclaimed Grasses co-authored with Nancy Ondra (Storey Books 2002) and Plants and Landscapes for Summer-Dry Climates (EBMUD 2004) explored garden plants and structures that fit comfortably into landscapes.

His work has been featured in diverse publications from Architectural Digest to Pacific Horticulture Magazine, and with the help of fellow photographer, Joseph Greco, maintains a library of more than 200,000 garden photographs. Many photos can be seen on this website and clients can receive digital previews of submissions customized for each project.

Professionally, he is a member of ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers), ASPP (American Society of Picture Professionals), and GWA (Garden Writers of America) from which he received his third Garden Globe award for overall portfolio, 2002 representing work from Storey Books Grasses, Horticulture Magazine (October cover), Garden Design Magazine ("ruins" of Chanticleer Garden) and Ortho Books Complete Perennials.

His latest book Hardy Succulents with Gwen Kelaidis for Storey Books will be released in March 2008 and he is currently working on a book about meadows titled Meadows by Design with John Greenlee for Timber Books
